If you're staying at Teylu, give yourself a proper treat and pop down to West Looe Stores. It's about 30 seconds' walk from the cottage, and it's honestly one of my favourite places.
Run by the wonderfully friendly Hayley and Julian, and their equally super team, this little shop punches way above its weight. Call it a deli, call it a general store, but really it's somewhere between your favourite local deli and Harrods Food Hall, just in miniature. Fruit and veg, fresh meat, a proper wine, beer and spirits selection, and a hot counter dishing out locally made pasties and sausage rolls, deliciously warm.
Then there's the deli counter — cold cuts, scotch eggs, gala pies, pâté, and a cheese selection that goes a long way towards explaining my waistline. Add in cakes and bread from a local bakery, plus confectionary and all the everyday essentials, and you genuinely never need to leave the village.
But it's more than a shop. Hayley and Julian really are the true heart of West Looe. They keep an eye out on the elderly residents, take in a parcel or two, and think nothing of dropping off a food parcel to someone who's not well — and I know that's only half of it. They're too modest to want me to mention the rest, but it doesn't go unnoticed. We're very lucky to have them.
